5 TALKING POINTS AHEAD OF JAPAN GAME

Preview of Saigon Saints vs Japan FC:

5 TALKING POINTS AHEAD OF  SAINTS  VS  JAPAN FC

66.66% LESS HISTRIONICS EXPECTED

Trae Lower’s inevitable ban and Chuck Marion’s work scheduling gaffe deprives the Saints of two of their most entertaining troublemakers this weekend. The news was greeted with delight by the Saigon Amateur Referee’s Association,

‘This is the best thing to happen to referees in Saigon, since unionization in 2003. We are fucking delighted, what a time to be alive!’ Tuan The Man, SARA President.

The news however was greeted with despair by the Saints’ ultras and perhaps even the neutral , who had been hoping there might be a small chance they could get to see a scrap or something. The pair have been in fine form recently, so it remains to be seen who can step into their referee haranguing, goal scoring boots.

DEBUTS

Returning to the squad after a long lay-off is Jack McCaughan, who famously challenged the entire squad to come and fight him in the UFC gym after his ashes debut. No one took him up on the offer, but all decided that it would probably be best to keep him on the team. Jack makes his league debut along with Richie Blain, a winger, an actual winger!

TOP-SCORER RACE HOTS UP

Chuck’s back to back strikes in recent weeks brings him right into the mix in the club goal scoring charts, in fact it puts him joint top with two. Bobby Burke will be looking to edge ahead today, but don’t rule out Sean Sweeney, currently lagging behind on one (level with the gaffer). It was said when Sweeney signed that he would give us a goal a game and to be fair he has certainly hit that benchmark.

DRY JANUARY ABANDONMENT

I think we can all agree that the driest part of January was a few of the Olympique lads last week.

SAINTS MARCHING IN TO UPPER MID-TABLE

A win today would see the Saints edge towards the upper end of the table and a SHOCKING five game unbeaten run. Are we finally starting to see the ‘New Wave Football’ Simon Finnigan promised when he took over from disgraced ex-player manager Steve Shaw? Do Japan like it ‘up ‘em’? Is Simon even back yet? Is Hurley going to have a stag? Are all questions that will be answered in next week’s edition.
